How to hypermile, according to expert Wayne Gerdes:

Maintenance
Inflate your tires to the recommended maximum.
If it's not already equipped, install a fuel-consumption display gauge in your car.
Switch to synthetic oil.
Remove excess weight from your car and roof racks when possible.
Change your air filter annually.

Basic driving habits
Don't let your car warm up in winter – new technologies have made it unnecessary.
Avoid heavy braking.
Avoid quick acceleration.
Always drive the speed limit, or just below.
Always drive in the right lane.
Turn off your car's air conditioner, or use it sparingly.
Plan your route to avoid congestion, hills and left turns.
Avoid idling.

Advanced driving techniques
Drive without braking: Imagine that your brakes are limited or degraded. This means driving slower, creating buffers between your car and the vehicle in front of you, and looking far ahead to predict traffic flow.
Drive with load: Instead of using cruise control when driving in hilly territory, keep your foot locked in the same position on the gas pedal. Allow your speed to drop as you climb a hill and rise when you go downhill.
Drive with buffers: To drastically improve fuel efficiency in congested traffic, leave three car lengths between you and the car in front. As traffic speeds up and slows down, the buffer allows you to avoid braking and fast acceleration.

Parking tips
Park in back corners to avoid braking for pedestrian traffic near entrances.
Park in the highest spot of a parking lot to take advantage of gravity – coast to a stop, and roll downhill to get started.
In double rows, roll through the first spot to park facing outward.

For all the Wii owner, I am sure you heard about Mario Kart is coming soon. Let's look at the sneak preview of the game.

Players choose a character from Nintendo's long list of animated plumbers, princesses and primates, and then race around tracks that borrow obstacles and backgrounds from the Mushroom Kingdom canon. Being nimble around corners is often not as important as the timely use of items such as flingable shells and banana peels.

TORONTO — National average gasoline prices will top $1.40 a litre this summer and $2.25 by 2012, according to a forecast from CIBC World Markets which says tightening supplies will drive crude oil over US$150 a barrel by 2010 and to US$225 a barrel in four years.

Thursday's report from economists at the investment banking division of Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce coincided with news that Bank of Nova Scotia's commodity price index jumped by five per cent during March to its third record high in as many months.

"The oil and gas index soared by 11.8 per cent in March, climbing above its previous peak in October 2005, and will rise further in April," said Scotiabank economist Patricia Mohr.

At CIBC World Markets, chief economist Jeff Rubin - one of the first to predict $100-a-barrel oil, which he did three years ago - updated a forecast he issued in January saying oil would hit US$150 a barrel within four years, raising that projected price by $75.

Rubin said his group has "re-examined our projected supply increases" to discount expected rises in production of natural gas liquids, which he said account for virtually all the growth in global petroleum liquids production since 2005.

Gas liquids, "while valuable hydrocarbons, are not a viable substitute for oil and cannot be economically used as a feedstock for gasoline, diesel or jet fuel," the new report says.

"Stripping out natural gas liquids, oil production has not grown for over two years, which certainly goes a long way to explaining why oil prices have doubled over that period," Rubin said.
"Whether we have already seen the peak in world oil production remains to be seen, but it is increasingly clear that the outlook for oil supply signals a period of unprecedented scarcity."

At Scotiabank, the overall commodity index has climbed 181.2 per cent from its cyclical low in October 2001 - a stronger advance than the surge between 1972 and mid-1978.

Oil and mineral prices posted new highs in March, and crude oil has continued booming to a record of US$119.90 per barrel Tuesday on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

"Recent news that Russian oil production dropped by 0.9 per cent in the first quarter of 2008, the first year-over-year decline in a decade, set off another wave of concern over supplies to meet growing emerging-market demand," Mohr said.

She added that after a deep plunge in natural gas drilling activity in Western Canada since the autumn of 2006, activity "appears to be steadying, and we expect a big improvement in 2009 and 2010."

Scotiabank's metal and mineral index rose 8.3 per cent in March, surpassing its previous peak in May 2007, on "widespread gains in base and precious metals and huge jumps in fertilizer-related mineral prices."

The forest products index edged higher as rising newsprint and paper prices offset ongoing weakness in lumber. And while the agricultural index lost ground in March as wheat prices eased from record highs, it remains 57.8 per cent above a year earlier.

TTC Announces Fare Hikes After Facing Budget Cuts

Adult tickets and tokens, purchased in quantities of 5 or 10, will officially increase by 15 cents each, while the cash fare will remain the same at $2.75 each. The cost of a metro pass will also increase from $99.75 to $109 a month. The price raise was approved by all TTC commissioners after surveys from riders showed people were willing to pay more to keep the current services. The fare hikes will take effect in November. Although, I don't take TTC to work, I believe this will decrease the ridership of the public transits. This will obviously increase the traffic on the rush hours which is already getting worse day by day. This gone to be stop! How can we say we want to decrease the pollution in the city and demotivate people from taking the public transits? This does not impress me from the decreasing popularity of Toronto Mayer.

I saw the video previewing the new Slim PSP. Other than iti s slimmer, lighter and has video output. There aren't major improvement over the predecessor. I still believe DSL will still outsell PSP as we are heading to the busy Christmas shopping season.

On the weekend, I have tried "Rice Paper" - a Viethai Cuisine for the third time located at 101 Ravel Road (Leslie & Finch).

The interior design of the restaurant is very relax and colorful. I really like the environment of the place where you can chat while you enjoy your food.

I was amazed at the food as I started to love Thai food more and more. I have tried both Lemongrass Pork spring roll noodles and Chicken spring roll noodles. Both dishes taste extremely good. I like the taste of the spring roll. I also ordered a strawberry drink. The drink actually is not too sweet and it was fresh squeezed.

I could recommended the restaurant for casual lunch or dinner.

I was wondering if anybody went to the street festival located at the No Frills / Destiny plaza?

I think it is getting way out of hand. There are virtually street tasting festival in every Chinese mall at GTA. Furthermore, the smell of the "Smelly ToFu" is getting worse. I usually like the "Smelly ToFu", as I am getting older, I just dislike it more and more. I hope the neighbour is getting noticed of the environment!

I recently read an article on marriage and parenting about the amount of talk time with kids, here is the quote:

Stock Market Correction

The article on my blog I wrote earlier on May this year predict TSX will go to 15000 by year end. As of today, TSX has a correction close to 10% from the peak of the index. If you are a long term investment, this is a good news to add some more stocks into your portfolio. I am planning to add some more into my portfolio.

The index might go down further from this point on. But if you look at 5-10 years time frame, you will be glad you add some more into your portfolio.

I saw an article titled "The future face of Facebook poses Web's latest billion-dollar question" from Globeandmail.com today. It is very interesting to see the how popular facebook has become in this past year. I was surprise how Facebook turn down a cash offer of $1-billion from Yahoo last year too.

Facebook does has its revenue stream as the site has seen its user base grow by more than 85 per cent in the past six months, according to estimates from comScore. I was how it attracted more than 1.5 billion page views a day.

I do visit facebook a lot these days and I could see that many advertisers will give facebook a look to advertise on facebook. If it goes well, I do see facebook social network website to be a success story. In the future, facebook must keep increase its usefullness on the site or else it will become another fast-growing social network namely Friendster goes flamed out.

FTN.TO - 15 financial stocks into one ETF, pays around 6.2% annually on dividend.
BCE.TO - Sold twice before the takeout by Teachers' Pension.
Add 2 year BNS GIC on 4.8%

Holding:
ING Canada (IIC.TO) - Long term hold for me in insurance industry (pay around 2% dividend)
Telus (T.TO) - Up along with Rogers and BCE.
Evervest Diversified Income Trust (EIT-UN.TO)- Pays around 12% income annually.
Nokia (NOK) - Up ever since the news on RIM and APPL.
SMH - Booming time for wireless chips producers.

Personally, I think Sony's move is a little too late. Most people who want to buy a Playstation 3 has already done it.

Those people who did not want it in the first place will not find this price drop too attractive.

TSX to hit 15,000 by year-end: CIBC World Markets

CIBC World Markets is forecasting that takeover fever will help to drive the benchmark index of the TSX to 15,000 by year's end.

In Summary, CIBC World Markets is trimming its overweight position in financial stocks by two percentage points because of the high Canadian dollar and the crumbling U.S. housing market.

1) +1% in base metals
2) +1% in utilities
3) Remains overweight in energy stocks by 3-5%

I do think 15,000 might be too aggressive, here is why:
1) Canadian Market had a great run in the past few years already.
2) Canadian Interest Rate will likely to raise at the second half of the year.
3) Although high oil price remind high which help TSX market because of the overweight portion in oil and gas. The high oil price will eventually hurt the economy in the long run. Thus, coporate earning will fall. (e.g. stock price will fall)

I will continue to put money into TSX but I will also beware of summer sell off before it will go higher.

I first heard this OLED HDTV from radio. Afterward, I want to do more research on this amazing tv. Some people need bigger and better LCDs, but we're just fine with the 27-inch prototype Sony mentioned during its press conference yesterday.

With a contrast ratio of greater than 1,000,000:1 (not a misprint) to go with its 1080p resolution, and >100% NTSC color reproduction, take a look at the gallery for a few more shots of this HDTV and hope it hits shelves someday.
